300 meters on a 12" gong is easier for me than 200m on 10" plates. With a 200m zero, straddle half the dot over the gong at 300, which is an easy sight picture.
I watched my brother in law get repeatable hits at 600 with a 6920 wearing a Comp M4 on a 66% IPSC
We had walked it out from 100 figuring out hold overs as we went.

All the data collected during the days prior to pre-qual and qualifying did make things easier. The only new adjustments made were for windage. Not a whole lot of wind at MCRD San Diego, but at Kaneohe Bay, the wind was gusty and it made for a much challenging qualifying day.
Me too, I have made hits on prairie dogs at 800 but I was using a 24 inch barreled Savage 12FV with a 15X scope. Took me about 10 shots per hit and I could not always see the impacts through the scope. A 55 grain bullet through a carbine barrel will be subsonic at that range.
Since when do you fire for qualification at MCRD San Diego? They don't have a rifle range there. It's right next to the airport in downtown San Diego.
Unless things have changed rifle qualification is held at Edson range at Camp Pendelton and there is plenty of wind there since it's right next to the ocean.
