The rarest of my Mosin collection so far, but I only have an M38, a 91/30, and a VKT Finn M39 (on an 1899 receiver)
I think I'm gonna drill and tap it for a scope. What do you guys think?

Why do the loudest do the least?
If that's a 1943-stamped model, you may want to keep it "as is". There were only about 50,000 M44's made that year for trials and many collectors will pay a premium for a decent example.
Please don't bubba-ize a historical rifle...
Cyril: Oh now that's a breach of trust!
Lana: Do you really want to open this can of trust-breachy worms after I just found you and my ex-boyfriend with a dead hooker in the trunk?
Cyril: ...I do not.

That's a fine example. I don't have a collection of mosins, but my two are both 91/30's. One that was captured by the Finns and recaptured by the Russians, and one that is an East German marked weapon. The Finn shoots great, but the East German one has head space issues that will need to be addressed before I shoot it.
Just remember, check your local drought index before shooting it. You could set the whole forest on fire with the muzzle flash.

Very cool. That thing might have seen the streets of Berlin.

I'm jealous.
Letting my C&R lapse a few years ago has saved me countless dollars though.

RIP Brothers
I got one of it's brothers. Picked mine up locally about a year or so back. It shoots well for what was basically a trials rifle.
