Keep in mind Maadi's come in several flavors.
Pre 89 Steyr imports, post 89 Sporters and CAI imports with CAI 922r compliance parts.
Generally Maadi's are built on Russian equipment and used to be as close to a true Russian AKM as you could get.
Even the CAI imports with their crap grade 922 compliance parts are pretty decent rifles, especially if you swap out the FCG for something like a Tapco G2 setup.
They are night an day superior to any WASR that has a converted magazine well, they were imported to accept a high capacity even though they shipped with a short low capacity magazine.
They are generally a few grades above the old Romanian SAR rifles (and really those aren't too bad) but with both you have to watch out for canted sights (front and back) which can be a problem with any AK.
I even remember some Arsenal rifles with canted sights that people were complaining about.
ETA: Looks like we have a new flavor of Maadis and it doesn't look like anything more than a parts kit gun with a US made barrel. Pass.

It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.
