This is true. I think of it as carbine stance vs subgun stance. I just use whatever the instructor wants. Before I met Larry, I was always squared up, as that was the only way I had been taught by various instructors. When introduced to the carbine stance, the immediate performance gains in both speed and precision were too substantial to ignore. And while a great many will cry foul over the reduction in plate area presented downrange, the profile difference is not nearly as dramatic as they would have you believe.
