Look, I'm just gonna nip this in the bud right now...

I've literally never seen anyone upset that someone said, "Merry Christmas," or, "Happy Hannukah." I only see people get upset when someone says, "Happy Holidays," so that meme is mirrored, IME.
(I'm sure there's someone whose experience is counter to mine.)

And considering "holidays" comes from "holy days" it's even dumber if people get butthurt. Also the only time most people say "happy holidays" is when they are talking to someone who might be jewish or muslim or some other religion that they don't even know about and they aren't sure.
I usually say Merry Christmas and have a "Oh sorry, Happy Hannakah" standing by, especially when I lived in south Florida. I guess now I have to just default to Merry Festivus. I used to also say Happy Chaka Khan but you need jewish people around to get that joke.
I also understand why companies and such have to say "Happy Holidays" because in the past they have had to deal with people who are professional victims looking for an opportunity to be offended. But probably the most fun is people who get annoyed by "X mas" without understanding what that X really means.
Growing up my neighborhood was probably 50% jewish and I knew more than a few households who celebrated christmas just so their kids didn't feel left out on Santa Day. Pretty much all of the tv specials back then revolved around christmas and santa stuff, most people remember it's mostly about the kids anyway and until they get confirmed or mitvahed it's not a big deal.
I always felt sorry for the kids that came from Jehova Witness households, they got robbed of just about every fun holiday from Halloween to Christmas.

Per the jehovah's witnesses', no way! Theyve got the greatest deal of all... NO holidays!
No running around appeasing unappeasable relatives, no people bringing their weird cheese logs/snacks to your house and abandoning them, no preposterous gifting and re gifting, no remembering every special snowflakes dumb birthday. Plus you get all the days off, but with zero expectation of what is to be done with this glorious free time.
Theyve got 99 other things I dont like, but their holiday schedule is amazing.

The reason people get "butthurt" over a "Happy holidays" greeting, is because the only reason for it in today's society is for the single purpose of NOT saying the word "Christmas". The main holiday we are celebrating here... the legal federal holiday... is Christmas. It's all about celebrating the birth of baby Jesus, period, end of story.
Nobody goes around during ramadan saying "happy holidays".
It's being used in the guise of inclusiveness, to pander to the few (yet vocal) people who (cry, piss, and moan all the time) are not Christians in this nation. After hundreds of years of tradition of being a Christian people, Americans are leaving their faith in droves. (thanks to the leftist culture, and their control of the media) The moral decay on our society is starting to tear the country apart. Now it's to the point of people doing all they can NOT to upset a small minority of muslims and atheists, (who get angry when you say "Merry Christmas" to them) whereas it's perfectly OK to ignore or outright chastise the vast majority of the population who are Christians for their beliefs, because 9 times out of ten, they are so peace loving, the just roll with the punches.

Again, I've never seen individuals - or the internet - explode in rage about someone saying, "Merry Christmas," like I have seen them explode in rage at hearing (or seeing), "Happy Holidays."
Maybe I'll wish everyone I meet a, "Happy Kwanza," this year.

I proudly and loudly say "MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!" publicly, privately and anytime I want to anyone I want. I say it with a big smile and I genuinely mean it to whoever I say it to.
I've been wished happy Chanukah and happy holidays many times, and I always respond with a heartfelt thank you for the well wishes.
None of this is a big deal until someone attempts to make it a big deal. I enjoy humiliating, embarrassing and shaming those people.
