Let's Go Brandon!
Awesome read - learned some new things! Thanks.
Captured one in southern AFG early 2000's. M16, not A1. Was shown to be lost in RVN 1964. 20rd mags filled with period ammunition, funny.
I dread the inevitable global recirculation of the US/Euro stand off weapons being poured over parts of EUR now.
It always amazes me how things of this nature happen. Good post OP!
Good night Chesty...wherever you are.
The G3A4 was kinda awesome and the Spentz nurse made me rethink the whole women in combat stuff.

Either we (CIA) flew them over there via Good Time Charlie Wilson's authorization or the Russians did after acquiring what was left behind in Vietnam after the war there. Either way THEY easily got full autos but WE THE PEOPLE dont, except for a select wealthy few.
Never forget every word you spoke when you took your oath of office.
The vast majority of those photos are Spentz and Spentz posing as Muj. I think it's safe to say the Russians liked the M-16A1. I also think the Russians would have been sophisticated enough to purchase M-16A1s either through a client state or other go between. When it comes to arming their own special forces, they don't worry about sanctions or ideology.

I wonder if that G3 wasn't a Pak or Iranian one. If nothing else, Soviet SOF had a huge mission for operations behind NATO lines in the Brandenburger mold from WWII, and actually trained for it reasonably intensely. There were always rumors of GRU or KGB female members in the Women's Peace Camps set up outside GLCM bases, for example. True or old wives tale to keep the Sky Cops interested in their jobs, who knows. Plausible for sure.
NORK SOF had tons of M-16s as well, and since their first day of the war rear area disruption operations were on the Soviet mold, I wouldn't be surprised if those rifles were also not Vietnam origin, or even purchased off third parties in grey or black markets, like the infamous 80 MD500 helos the North Koreans bought.
