Ideas like this always end up begging the question "why?" If you've a good answer for that, a clear sense for what you're trying to accomplish, and some significant reason for selecting a particular design, then more power to you: adorn away.
For most of us, however, there really isn't a very good answer to that question. The longer we ponder such things, the more we tend to conclude that what once seemed like a very cool idea is actually pretty cheesy in most cases.
My advice would be to paint clear identifying markings on your magazines, and hold off on the receiver pimping. Unless you have a communicable disease or some special connection to Magpul, neither of your opening ideas really carries all that much cachet with those who actually use their rifles.
