Prototype awards for Next Generation SAW

It'll be interesting to see if this actually results in a production contract for someone. Can't say I've ever heard of PCP Tactical though:

Under Section 815 Other Transaction Agreements (OTA) authority, pursuant to 10 U.S.C. § 2371b, the U.S. Army Contracting Command - New Jersey (ACC-NJ), on behalf of Project Manager Soldier Weapons, awarded six (6) separate Fixed Priced, Full and Open Competition (F&OC), Prototype OTA's to:

AAI Corporation Textron Systems - Hunt Valley, MD; OTA W15QKN-18-9-1017
    FN America LLC. - Columbia, SC; OTA's W15QKN-18-9-1018 & W15QKN-18-9-1019
General Dynamics-OTS Inc. - Williston, VT; OTA W15QKN-18-9-1020
PCP Tactical, LLC - Vero Beach, FL; OTA W15QKN-18-9-1021
Sig Sauer Inc. - Newington, NH; OTA W15QKN-18-9-1022

These Prototype OTA's will be for the manufacture and development of a Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle (NGSAR) system demonstrator representative of a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) 6. The expected Prototype OTA duration is twelve months after award. The Prototype OTA's were awarded on 25 June 2018.

    Specs?
The Second Amendment ACKNOWLEDGES our right to own and bear arms that are in common use that can be used for lawful purposes. The arms can be restricted ONLY if subject to historical analogue from the founding era or is dangerous (unsafe) AND unusual.

    It's that simple.

It’s going to go to Sig per what seems like Army SOP. I guess these are just formalities.

Not for a SAW it's for a Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle (NGSAR), is Army thinking of going the M27 route? I am beginning to think this NJ bunch is in the business of wasting taxpayer money and trying to get retirement jobs with SIG.

    It's a kinda-sorta SAW replacement:

"The NGSAR is the planned replacement for the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) in Brigade Combat Teams (BCT). It will combine the firepower and range of a machine gun with the precision and ergonomics of a rifle, yielding capability improvements in accuracy, range, and lethality."

    LOL. When I see this...

    ...all I see is this.

It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

Maybe the Army should just award a sole-source contract to Heckler & Koch and be done with it

    Could easily do worse.
