So if you have some nice AK's- I'd flip them now and maybe get a few AR's for the same value. Noticed that people are getting out of foreign calibers anyway with these potential threats to import ammo.
The time to sell them was during the Great Obama Gun Sale of 2008 when even the worst CAI atrocity of an AK design was selling for up to $2,000. That's when I thinned my heard from approx. 36 to about a dozen or so.

Those that do have production capability are primarily producing AR18 types for their own military forces. Not saying the AR15 is going to be completely obsolete, just simply being replaced with more advanced weaponry. Obviously, if you live in the US then having an AR is advantage but I personally like to have a well rounded collection.
You are really mis-assuming why many of those countries are using those rifles.

Belgian forces using FN rifles? Who'd a thunk it! Italy using Berettas? Austria using Steyr? Germany using HK? Swiss using SIG? England? France? Spain?

Yap, most are AR-18 based, but Belgium was going to use a Belgium made FN of some sort. Same for the other countries, going to use domestic. In Austria it's even a constitutional requirement not to be dependent on other countries for their primary arms and munitions.

Then go look at what those countries elite forces are using when they have the option.

Sweden and Norway might make your case more. Could pick whatever they wanted, Sweden using want FNC derivative, Norway a 416.

Probably some pressure to go with EU mfgs though.

416 you only get half a point for... Yep, it's piston, but also AR form factor compatible.

I still wish I had a Daewoo. Kindof want a Wolf upper as well.

Everyone says that but I like 6.8. It just feels better emotionally. I may do a 6.5CM one day but 6.5 grendel is just more than I care to mess with.

    I'm just picking something different.

Have shot and liked the 6.5G but I'd probably like 6.5CM and 6.8 just as much.

Don't want to get into a Grendel/6.8 debate, but have to say: Not much to "mess with" on 6.5 Grendel. Buy a saami barrel/bolt. Buy some elander mags. Buy some Hornady bulk Grendel blaster, hunting, and match ammo, and for practice/ fun buy some cases of wolf steel. Go to town.

Extremely accurate (brass, anyway), reasonable recoil. (Like 6.8) arguably better factory ballistics (yeah, I know about spc II 6.8, looser throats, etc. I'll stick with grendel)

I can (and do) reload Grendel from 7.62x39 brass. It's designed to run in AKs, and they are being produced for it. Designed to work in steel case.

Everytime I get the urge for an AK I just go shoot Grendel and realize I'd be going backwards. Probably would think the same if I had headed down 6.8 path.

CM is a different beast, different platform and purpose. 6.5G and 6.8 to me are ideal intermediate cartridges.

Starting fresh and not restricted by it AR-15 mag well depth would have gone just a hair larger, but both of these pretty much optimize the AR-15 platform in terms of ballistic performance. Can't squeeze much more out of a cartridge without changing bolt / receiver extension design, and magwell length.

Bunch of guys now shooting short and suppress Grendel's very successfully. That's probably my next thing to play with. They will argue it beats blackout at its own game.

I also want a Wolf upper, but I have no idea why. I keep getting drawn to it, but I can’t imagine what it would do better or different than my other rifles.

Same....I dunno why either. Doubt I will.

Actually, part of me wishes I had a Howa Type 89. Just because they look weird.
