    Thank you!!!

Right, the bolt should not be that brittle. AR10 bolts are over engineered and should be strong enough even if the heat treat is off(too hard) but they should not chip like that.

Does this buffer have dead weights in it? There's one in an AR-10 that bounces like a muther fudger. Might be a contributing factor if the buffer isn't deadening travel correctly.

    I'm not 100% shure.

I went to the website and it's a 8.5oz tungsten weighted carbine buffer with a 308 rifle length action spring.

    Here's a link to the buffer I bought http://heavybuffers.com/ar10carbine.html

I didn't know much about buffers so after seeing someone recommend him I just sent him a email, told him what my setup was and bought his recommendation.

Don't be surprised if it's due to the NiB BCG, which it looks like yours is.

Why would it be the nib bcg? Also it's a lantac enhanced bcg.

It's pretty simple. A 9310 bolt with NiB. NiB has been known to have issues when not done 100% correct. One of those issues is hydrogen embrittlement. I highly doubt your bolt catch is so strong, that it is causing chipping.

If it's NiB, I'd dump it immediately. I had entire lugs break off. Aside from the brittle issue, the finish sucks in that fouling adheres to it.

I'm not versed in their product line. But my experience with one of their buffers is terrible. The bolt bounce is so bad it's distracting when you fire the rifle. Thought maybe you were getting that "jack hammer" action on your bolt catch.

Do you have any recommendations as to a replacement buffer?

What barrel length and gas system? And what receiver extension (buffer tube) are on the gun?

For carbine, a Colt carbine spring and H2 buffer are usually the middle of the fairway option. For an A5 R.E., the A5h2 with a Colt Rifle spring are what I run. But it depends on the set up.

What you have might be fine... again.. I don't know their products other than the one goat rope I've tried. We even high speed filmed the thing bouncing like crazy.
