Well the Czechs have a history of doing things different. Even when they were a WP country they didn't use a AK or a rifle that used AK mags.

Didn't realize that about Austria and Finland, guess that would explain their non STANAG magazines.

Austria is prevented by their constitution from ever joining a military alliance again. They have a neutrality law built into their constitution.

Theoretically NATO members would have to go to war if an outside nation attacked a member, in practice that's probably a different story

Interesting, if it makes it over here for sale at a reasonable price I'd consider it.

No. CZ just wanted to piggyback on Bren heritage. Pure marketing.

Not really intent. We (Poland) moved to 5.56x45 because we did not get the memo, that no one expects as to do that. We just tough it's mandatory, while it is not. There are plans for new rifle, that will use STANAG mag, but is not intent of military, but proposition from industry. Also industry provides STANAG adapter from our AK format (wz.96 Beryl), but military does not seem interested (soldiers on mission are, but brass is not).

Lithuania went with G36 (not STANAG mag), to replace Ak 4.

Just as long as I can get the surplus parts kits (and we get rid of that damn barrel ban ASAP after January 2013) from what they're replacing then it's all good.

HK has offered 2 round burst since the 90's. I wonder when Russia will finally realize that STANAG compliancy and 5.56mm are the way to go?

When Russian arm designs and 5.45 and 7.62x39 aren't as good or better than 5.56 and STANAG.

NATO never ratified the requirement for a common magazine, only ammunition. Member nations are to required to use "STANAG" magazines.

Well, the 2 round burst offered by the AN-94 was this super fast burst made to feel like a single shot and depended on a very complex mechanism.

I believe the czech are going for a much more traditional burst,

Heckler & Koch's 2 round burst isnt a new concept, they have been around nearly 20 years. This CZ gun has a lot of design features that look like they were copied direct from both HK and FN, I wouldnt be surprised if the CZ rifle's lower could be modded to function on either a G36 or a SCAR.
