Dual Use muzzle device??? Alternatives appreciated

I have a KCIMS KCIMS System-14mm ready to take to an AK builder. I already have one on a VZ 58, and while I like it, before I go down the road of several hundred on a pinned and welded device, I need to understand alternatives.

The Krebs comes in a base flash hider, and 'compensator'. I don't find much difference between to two in terms of recoil, but the VZ 58 is pretty snappy. Krebs JUST started selling a shorter brake to put over top of the base unit, and that is on the way - if it tames the 58, I might be satisfied. There is also a cover that supposedly serves as a linear device. So, that is at least 3 devices in one.

Are there other systems that do 2-3 functions like this?

Then there is suppressor possibilities. There is only one can to fit the Krebs and they are pretty low inventory - and require a $200 adapter. [And you really don't know till you get the can if it all lines up...] Again, if there are OTHER good systems out there that can be a good FH and brake and also attach a can, I'd like to see them. Thanks.

What rifle are you building (AK)? What caliber? Why are you pin and welding?

For any AK pattern I have only found ONE reliable suppressor if you are really thinking that might be in your future and that is the Wolverine, actually can run it 7.62 or 5.45.

Modding a post ban SA85m. Wanted to cut and pin the KCIMS, and RD combo gas block. The KCIMS now has a brake to screw on also so it can fulfill three functions. The only can for it is one of the Liberty models for 30 cal - the sovereign.

    OK - 'problem solved':

I finally purchased and tested the brake that goes with my KCIMS:

    www.krebscustom.com
Krebs Custom SHORT Titanium Muzzle Brake - 7.62
Another option for the Krebs Custom Interchangeable Muzzle System is now available! For customers who either wish to substantially reduce the recoil of their 7.62x39 rifles, or who live in areas that require muzzle brakes (as opposed to flash suppressors), we now offer our Krebs Custom titanium...
    www.krebscustom.com www.krebscustom.com

It works great! Feels like a 74 brake and works well now on the VZ 58. TOTALLY changes the recoil - must be a 50% reduction.

(I had my VZ 58 modded as a 14.5" gun by Dan Brown). So now you can have a FH, Compensator, and brake all in one device.

Just an option for just about any AKM or AK 47 in addition to the VZ 58. So...next project is the SA 85M. I'm satisfied even if I never suppress.

Wow, $90. It's cheaper to put brakes on my car.

I only did it because of setting up a 14.5" gun. Sure, there are other devices (for a 14.5") but you normally are stuck with a FH or brake, and then must go with a can for anything else. A 'real' 74 brake is $80, and Russian devices are pretty pricey.

You don't have to justify. I'm just still remembering the "old AK prices" days. Caught me a little off guard.

Surefire’s warcomp is nice if you plan on running suppressed and use a KNS piston or rifle dynamics adjustable gas block. I have two: Geissele SBR 11.5” and one on a Galil ACE 7.62x39. They are rock solid devices, but I almost exclusively run them suppressed.

Just an FWI, but due to the location of the ports on the WAR comp, they creat a a lot of gas leak at the mount when used with a can dramatically reducing suppression when compared to Surefire’s 3P or Brake. If you run the gun mostly suppressed it might be worth swapping to a different device.

I guess for now and because I already have it I will stick with the Krebs KCIMS. It comes as a combination compensator and flash hider which are actually separate devices and afford either a low flash compensator or pure flash hider which has four prongs. It is also suppressor ready, albeit, a limited option with liberty suppressors. For $90 you can buy a titanium attachment that turns it into a very very effective compensator but with some blast. It is also a good system to be used on the AK or VZ 58. But thanks for the input.
