    Colt M4A1 SOCOM

Compared to the older 2013 version, I think the markings are a bit different on this one. Did the older one have the pinned and welded flash hider also?

The older one had a 16" barrel and no govt. Markings.

there were a variety of "vintages" of this incarnation, and all have the same Colt SKU.

The earlier (I want to say 2015) version had a 16" barrel and Troy handguards. The next I remember is the 2017, which was a beautifully finished rifle, had M4A1 rollmark, used both P&S and KAC handguards, and a 14.5" pinned and welded Colt SOCOM barrel. The 2018 version is identical to the 2017, except it has a US Government rollmark, in addition to the M4A1 marking, and is not quite the same quality of finish, and now carries CAGE coded uppers and QR marked lowers, and includes a KAC vertical foregrip.

The demand for the 2017 remains high, given its really great look and feel, and the demand is also high for the 2018, as it is the only US Government marked lower sold on an M4.

IIRC, the 2013's originally sold with a Knight's rail. Later (final production?) versions switched to a Troy rail, which upset some people as the price remained the same.

Is Colt going to release more of the 2018? I set aside some cash for one but I’m not waiting much longer.

You gets know you can get OEMs for 750, SOCOM barrels for 225ish, and RASs for 125ish right?

That said I wish the factory offering wasn’t 1500$ that’s lame

The 2018 version I bought off of Grant, with the US Government rollmark, looks pretty nice. Ironically the box label says "2013 Config"* on it (2013 configuration). Not exactly sure what that means.

I need another AR like I need a hole in the head, but I put one of these on layaway today. Maybe later I'll feel bad.

For those that have bought one, does it come with rail panels?
