Which ACOG did I use in the Army?

I’ve been putting together clones of each of my deployment rifles and all are complete but for the rifle I used during my last trip to Afghanistan. The rifle itself is actually done but it lacks an ACOG. The problem is that I have no idea which ACOG model I used.

Hopefully one of you can tell me which one I need to buy with the following clues:

    1. I was in an US Army line infantry battalion.
    2. Deployment was in 2010.
    3. I carried an M4.
    4. The ACOG was, I think, 4 power and the reticle was a red chevron. I think the housing had what could charitably be called back up sights and it definitely lacked a means to attach red dot.

    Many Thanks,
    Kyle

The issued ACOG is the TA31RCO-M150. The model TA31F (4x32, red chevron reticle) is extremely close.

In 2010, It may also (& more than likely) have been the TA31RCO-M4. Thing is, the military issued ones didn't have the RMR tabs. That was a later commercial sales thing with the RCO-A4 & RCO-M4 models to differentiate them from the military issued items. The M150 came with RMR tabs, special lens covers front & rear, & an eye-safe laser filter built into the kill-flash unit.

I wonder who/why/how the chevron came about. The plain old bullet drop comp reticle is, at least for me, wildly more quick and simple.

Pretty sure it had something to do with using it as a CQB red dot in a pinch with both eyes open.

That makes sense. We were trying two different COGs at my house the other day, and 3.5X vs 4X made a dramatic difference in picking up a target at 30-50 yards. 3.5 being much faster of course.

Are you sure you’re not mixing two models? The plain tritium BDC reticle ones had the shitty backup irons, and when we got the red chevron ones, there were no irons on top. This was in SOF units, so maybe the Army adopted something different?

Disclosure: I am affiliated PRN with a tactical training center, but I speak only for myself. I have no idea what we sell, other than CLP and training. I receive no income from sale of hard goods.

The Special Operations Peculiar Modifications (SOPMOD) ACOG would have been the TA01 with amber tritium lighting and back-up irons.

Leg Army had the TA31F from Rapid Fielding Initiative (RFI) with the M16A2/A4 reticle, while the TA31F - M150 RCO is for the M4. Both have the fiber optic illuminator built-in. Look into the eyepiece and you should be able to see which version you have in the black field under the visible field.

The Marines really love their circular or horseshoe "Donut of Death" reticle for its speed (as opposed to the Army chevron).

Yes, I’m certain you are correct. I wish I had taken pictures of my rifles then.

As a tangential question: this ACOG is correct for an M16, correct?
