That seems to be what I have heard about CA in the last 15 - 20 years. I have a 38 Undercover that I bought back in the early 80's. I bobbed the hammer and cut one coil off of the mainspring. It has always gone bang. I would estimate between 3000-4000 rounds have been through it for practice. It has been a constant companion (either pocket gun or truck gun).
I was told a long time ago to look for CA that were made either in Stratford or Stamford, CT. This is in their early days (70's & 80's). I picked up last year at an auction a late 70's model Undercover for $165.00. If nothing else I'll keep it for spare parts.
I'm still upset I traded off an old 44 Bulldog years ago. It was before I started reloading.
Yup.
Charters to Glocks I've had alot of NIB lemons. Some I try to save and they turn out great but plenty of others don't.
I'm really glad I know at least one "gun collector" who will buy the guns I find lacking. I buy new and he gets them at a used price. Doesn't care when I tell him the Glocks throw casings into the LEFT side of my face, etc. He hardly ever shoots and when he does he brings ten guns out and puts 5-15 rds through each.
I'm blessed I've got to fire hundreds of guns over the years
I'm on the fence about sending the Charter in to give them a chance to fix it, actually. Or sell it to the buddy and Beta test a new Ruger LCP Max.

3" Smith model 13, .357 magnum. Carries small but shoots like a full size. Fixed irons relegated for 158gr. bullets.
I'd probably buy an sp101 2 1/4 or 3 1/16 6-shooter in .327 Fed to compare side by side with my .327 LCR if I stumbled into one.
Sp101 would recoil less with hotter loads, the longer barrel would offer more sight radius, and it makes a better melee weapon once empty. 🤓
Lcr is lighter and has a better trigger.
Not sure how well a 3 inch would carry AIWB.
I finally got a bunch of new .32 magnum brass and have lots of .32 Short, Long, and .32 acp. Going to stick with the .32's unless I stumble into a nice concealable 6 or 7 shot .38 / .357 at a decent price.

Have a ruger LCR .357 for toss in the pocket short hike/ quick errands.
Find a Smith 65 3". You'll need $$$ and patience in order to find and buy one. Last one I saw was 2 years ago and was $900.
I inherited mine in 2001 after the passing of my father. It was his issued weapon and he bought it from his department when he retired for a whopping $125.00 in 1990.
