I've been kicking around this idea for a few weeks for a short handy bolt action rifle that magazine feed. This is what I have come up with.
Mark Larue has posted about his 14.5 in suitcase OBR, he and his daughter hunt with. She killed 2 elk with a very short .308 at 462 and 652 yards . So I know the ammo is capable even in a shorter barrel.
Remington 700 short action
1 in 10 .308 barrel cut and threaded 5/8-24. At 16 inches in length.
CDI bottom metal with 10 round AICS magazines.
EGW PIC rail. Aluminum
EGW practical 30mm aluminum rings
XCR compact take off stock( optional)
Or
PSS take off stock
BFG VCAS side mounted
Your choice of muzzle device or suppressor
1-4 optic illuminated with a milling FFP reticle
Not including semiauto guns. This is what a modern scout rifle should be. I plan on finding the action/barrel used, pawn shops and such. Doesn't need to be pretty its all going to get spray painted any way. As long as the barrel is reasonably consistent of 1 -2 MOA at 100 with qulity ammo it can stay and not be replaced. This should be able to kill anything 2 or 4 legged in North America at any reasonable range you might encounter likely 500yrds and in.
