If you are stuck on the Colt fiberlite stock, Model 1 Sales has CAR fiberlite stocks and they do fit on the mil-spec 2-position tubes.

Thanks for the lead- are they any good? Model 1 Sales generally makes my dick soft so I'm worried that they could even screw something up as simple as a plastic stock...

    I would stay away.

There's something wrong with the lock pin assembly in their photo:

Be patient and keep your eyes peeled. I waited a long time to find a like new, take-off N-stock. It was worth it.

There is nothing wrong with these stocks. I have three of them that are used with the NDS 2-position buffer tubes and they function 100%. They are a great inexpensive alternative to the Colt N4 CAR Fiberlite stock.

This comes from first hand experience with the product, not from some off-the-wall assumption.

M&A Parts seems to sell a good copy... here's a review I found on a gunblog

They come up fairly often on ar15.com's EE but get snapped up quick.

I've been meaning to respond with an update- I bought one of M&A's stock and they're legit. It looks identical to a Colt and works great, and I sold the buffertube / buffer / extras for $40 as I didn't need them. Definately recommended.

Yeah I have to second the M&A stock. It's a solid stock that is probably the second best option after the Colt. I run these stocks on two carbines and while the rifles aren't my most used ones, the stocks seem to work for normal average use.
