Remington 700 SPS vs Howa 1500

I know that comparisons can be misleading and at times contentious, but I was curious about a comparison between these two rifles. Essentially, both are bolt guns with 20 inch heavy barrels and Hogue stocks. I believe the Howa has a hammer-forged barrel, though. Pricing is also similar.

Regarding overall quality and durability/reliability, is it a wash or does one have the edge over the other?

    Likely not.

But the Remington has a distinct advantage on aftermarket support.

I have Remington's and I have Howa's. That being said, I believe the Howa is a better design for the following reasons:

    1. M16 Extractor
    2. Integral Recoil lug (that is stout, mind you)
    3. Flat bottom as opposed to round like the Remington.
    4. Howa's are known for being much smoother and very true from the factory.
    5. Superior barrels in my experience.

Threads are metric, however, any gunsmith worth the title will have no problem with metric threads if you need to rebarrel.

There are plenty of chassis systems and stocks available for Howa actions.

    Go buy one.

(Sorry for the upside down picture)
