The pics are of a Springfield 1911 (not sure exactly which model). The slide broke in two just behind the front serrations. Bad metal would be my guess. Anyway the pics were originally posted back at the end of January.
I'm glad to see Springfield took care of it.

I've seen this happen to 3 that I know of, all were stainless, perhaps some type of embritlement (sp)?!
I've seen one personally that did this. It was several years ago and it was a carbon steel "loaded" model.
That sucks, at least no body was hurt.
Springfield has the best customer service I,ve dealt with, they will make this right I bet.
