The O ring was just a temporary, interim fix. It will eventually flatten out, then start falling apart. When using the right spring, adding an O ring will make the extractor too strong. It will require excessive force to get it to snap over the cartridge rim as the bolt chambers the round.

Ordinarily true. However, with H3 (and heavier buffers) and the stronger springs found in AR10 platform rifles, I haven't found that they cause issues going into battery.
But, you're absolutely right that they will eventually turn to bits. Even the good ones.
