Yeah, they are nice, minus the lack of aftermarket crap. To get a USC to look tacticool ;), you have to drop a lot of cash into it. I now wish that they can take a hint from the KRISS carbine by using Glock magazines. That would cut some cost there.

Didn't use the o-ring, made a spacer to go between the rail and the loop. Two washers would have done it but I ended up cutting down a nut so the sides would fit into the rail slot better and it would be the exact height needed.

Thanks man.

Any issues with rotation? I'd like to bolt one through the slot on my MOE handguards but am concerned that it would twist/rotate and/or slide back and forth on the rail.

Really looking for exactly that but with two connection points so that at least it can't twist.

No rotation probs, but its screwed into the threaded mount point in the receiver, so it really can't go anywhere. Not sure how it would work on a MOE.

Eric!

The hooks on the lower have to be milled, the upper's magwell area has to be milled to match the new lower and the 5 slots/vents are cut into the front of the upper receiver. And of course the new barrel and stock and all the other goodies.

Thanks. Didn't know if you guys would appreciate the USC/UMP or not, but its a ton of fun to shoot.

Stephen H, is that Rust on your Gemtech can?

It's baked on paint. The rest of it burnt, turned kind of pinkish-brown, and flaked off. This bit that's left kind of hardened and seems somewhat permanent at this point. I haven't tried very hard to get it off though.

Well I finally added the rest of the paint to my SBR. Used a branch from one of our trees to mix it up some. I used, earth read, OD green, and earth brown. The base coat was Brownells Aluma-Hyde in FDE.

1. Bravo Company lower receiver with Tango Down pistol grip.

2. Bravo Company 11.5 inch upper receiver with PRI gas buster charging handle. Front sight base was cut down and shaved so the rail would cover it. Rail system is a Daniel Defense AR15 Lite Rail 9.0

3. Magpul UBR buttstock.

4. Magpul front and rear sights.

5. Tango Down stubby QD foregrip.

6. AN/PVS-14

Posted this a few pages back, but I've made some changes. Added a rear MBUS, Knights ambi-mag release, and Knights finger stop.
Next thing I want to do is put on an ambi-selector, cut down the FSB and put on a slightly longer FF rail. If anyone has a URX II for sale.... Please let me know!!!
If I can find the cash, I'll probably also put on a Triple Tap. But most likely end up with a PWS. :p

It shoots great, and I've had no malfunctions at all with it so far. Going to hopefully use it in a course or 2 soon and see how it runs at a more demanding pace.

Titleist, why have a rear sight if you have no front sight?

I believe that's a KAC upper which has the front BUIS integrated into the rail so it looks like part of the upper rail when folded down. It also looks like the flashlight might actually be mounted just to the right of center so the sight would still be visible if not possible a QD on the torch? That's the way I saw it anyway.

Here's a pic that illustrates the BUIS on the SR15 a little better:

I didn't do the stippling myself, as much as I'd like to claim credit for it.

And the sight tower does indeed clear just fine:

The URX is nice and low profile that way.

Now the debate, to keep those panels as is, or paint 'em.

Thanks guys. It shoots as good as it looks. Just waiting on a Magpul PAD and one of their enhanced buttpads and it's done.

I didn't think I'd like the stippled black KAC panels, but the end result looks great and feels amazing in hand.

I just got them yesterday. But I'm driving to Boise for a big group shoot so i can tell you afterwards. But from what I've heard it's not super easy on the lifespan of gloves, but it's like velcro, aka mega grip-y.

As for where I shoot, so far it's ranged from Douglas Ridge, to Tri-County. But I'm still looking around for a membership opportunity.

bkb, if you know of any good locations/ranges, drop me a pm if you have the time to do so. I'd love to hear your suggestions.

i shoot about 98% of my ammo at clatskanie gun club, about 5 miles south of town. i'm from mid-east columbia county, though, so it's not too much of a jaunt from me.. 30 minute drive, usually. from portland, you're probably lookin at a 1:45-2 hour drive, one way... you could mapquest it and find out.

great range- it's very small, but well equipped and private. 200/100/50/25/15m berms on the rifle range with a covered firing line, 4 concrete benches (which i've never seen full), and a bar running the length of the 50-15m lanes. two outdoor, reservation-only (but always available) pistol ranges, and a new indoor range/club house we're just finishing up. open to the public on weekends, totally empty on weekday AMs. i shoot on tuesday mornings, schedule permitting, and almost never see another human being. today, for instance, i shot from 9am to 2pm and never saw anyone else... brought some mobil target stands and ran drills downrange all day. my little slice of heaven.

like i said, open to the pub on weekends, if you find yourself up here sometime. feel free to PM me if you ever wanna check it out on a weekday when nobody's there. we do monthly pistol matches, and used to do "practical rifle" meets, but that's been dead for a while. I'm looking at setting up a "tactical carbine" meet, but i don't know if i'll be able to get too much interest from the mostly-fudd crowd up there. we'll see.

No sir. I got the chance to see Costa and Haley's modified versions at our dynamics class, and took note of how much material needs to be removed.

That said for my needs in the rare occasion for using it in 2-point mode works just fine with it the way it is now. Again they do work unmodified, the clip just won't rotate around 180 degrees.

Allan, wow man, nice stick!

Is this an organized shoot in Boise, or just you and some friends? Have you had a chance to put any rounds through that upper yet? Are you running it with the triple tap?

Sounds like about a dozen or more shooters right now. But it'll be a chance for a lot of us to run our guns harder than we normally do. So not an organized shoot.

I've put about 150 rounds through that upper, not enough to darken the triple tap yet. This is the downside of working too much, i.e less time to actually have free time. But the results were fantastic. The upper does kick quite a bit, but the muzzle flip is mitigated by the triple tap. It's still not a fun gun to be around if you're in the next firing lanes, but it's a LOT tamer than say a surefire brake. I'm hoping to put at least 400-500+ through it this weekend.

In fact I had to send in my SR-15 to KAC to get the upper fixed, as the front sight fell apart in our Magpul Carbine 1 class. They took it upon themselves to clean the upper. Normally this would be awesome. But my nice darkened (from 2000 rounds) triple tap came back looking factory new again. That made me want to sob a bit. I earned that filth!

Got my new BCM 11.5" upper with Knight's Armament URX II Mid-Length Rail and Triple Tap Muzzle Brake. The lower is the one from my KAC SR-15 rifle that I recently had registered (just in time for several upcoming classes!). This gun is very controllable during rapid fire, much more than I thought it would be. I can shoot it almost as fast as my SR-15 (that also has the Triple Tap Brake installed on it), while keeping the T-1 RDS on the high-center chest with ease. Still getting used to the BAD lever. Grant from G&R installed the URX Rail and Triple Tap Brake for me. Thanks again, Grant!

Simply put: this new upper kicks some serious ass!

I'll smack you again, Wayne.

So put about 450 rounds through it yesterday in the high desert of Idaho. And I'm gonna go ahead and just say it...Best. SBR. Ever.

The dot just does NOT move. JakJakMan can attest to how stable a platform it is. The first comment it got besides "damn that's loud" was "holy crap that gun just did NOT move!"

It's truly a great setup, light, and easy to use. In combination with the offset mount you get a massive amount of control over the whole gun. It just needs an SSA trigger, and the BAD and it's even better. The one thing we noticed is that every 3-4th round there's a carbon build up and at night you'll see a huge POP of fire that basically opens up a portal to a realm of pure chaos (aka Event Horizon minus the whole Lawrence Fishbourne thing).

But yeah, it's fun. If I can get Jak to dig through his camera we'll get a screencap of us firing it at night.

lol, yeah... I haven't gotten around to pulling those off yet. I should though, the bottom one is a bit of a bother.

I think once I source a FF rail, I'll cut and clean the FSB, which will tidy up the front end a lot.

Okay, upon closer inspection I can barely make out "Larue" on the upper receiver now. I zoomed in on it earlier and didn't see it. I thought it might possibly be the short barreled Stealth upper when I first saw it (due to the length of the barrel and the LT handguard), but the 11" handguard threw me off since most of the ones I've seen have the 10" Larue rail.

Thanks guys! That carbine looks awesome! Magpul and Larue Tactical are always a winning combination in my book!

It is definitely noticable. I find it to be more aggressive then say grip tape, but the great thing about being able to do it yourself is you can adjust just how aggressive you want it to be.

I didn't remove the ribs from the XTMs like I've seen some people do to the KACs. I figured the ribs were originally there to add texture so why not compliment them as opposed to removing them completely?

And IMHO, the look isn't half bad either...

Thanks man! I find myself shooting my two BCM SBRs more than anything else right now, they're just so much fun to shoot... especially in carbine classes! I just can't seem to put the SBRs down:D

I really like the new BCM Gunfighter charging handles! It's hard to explain it if you haven't used one yet, but the GF CH pulls completely straight back to the rear when operating it instead of veering off to the left or the right, which puts a lot of pressure and stress on the CH itself. It just feels great, man!

I had also broken the latch on a PRI gas buster CH during a carbine course almost 2 months ago when the roll pin snapped while I was firing my carbine. That sucked, and the most messed up thing about it was that I had less than 1,000 rounds on that PRI GB charging handle too!! That was just unacceptable to me.

It's really nice that I no longer have to worry about that happening now with the new Gunfighter CH thanks to the breakthrough design that takes a lot of that stress and pressure off the roll pin.

I've used the Mod 03 (the larger one) in a class and it worked well, although I thought that the huge latch size on the Mod 03 was a bit overkill for me personally, but YMMV. I'll be using my new Mod 04 Gunfighters in my upcoming Magpul class next weekend, and I'm really looking forward to testing them out for over 1,000 rounds in two days!

KAC and they're pretty spendy for what they are. I want one but can't bring myself to spend $80 on one.

I like the Tango Down stubby for carrying a spare battery for my PEQ or whatnot. But in pure physical "what do you need" the KAC is as bare bones as it gets and it's great.

$60, not $80. Also factor in to that price a QD sling loop.

Yeah, it was a typo but I meant to type $70 not $60 which is more accurate once you factor in shipping. It's still an awful lot of money for what it is IMO.

So the ATF finally got me my Stamp back, and I got my 10.5in Noveske barrel. Got the gun all put together tonight and got to shoot it. The Troy BUIS are freaking amazing. The elevation was dead on already, and the windage was only 2in off at 100yrds. Adjusted that and my CompM2 and I have myself a nice little SBR.

CMMG stripped upper
BCM BCG
Brownells "tactical charging handle" with extended latch
H2 buffer
Bushy lower(from old gun)
Troy 10in MRF
Tango Down stubby FDE QD grip
MAGPUL, LOTS OF MAGPUL!!!
(FDE MOE grip, CTR stock, 18 Maglevel PMags, and rail covers)
Noveske KX3
Noveske 10.5in 1/7 barrel
Troy BUIS
Aimpoint COMP ML2 with FDE cover

Only had time to shoot 30rds but it was AMAZING. idk what it is but my follow up "double tap" if you will shots were incredibly easy and fast at 25yrds(where I did all shooting from after sight in). I then proceeded to shoot a 6shot string as rapidly as I could and held a very good center mass group. All 30 rounds fit inside a 5in circle.

I have a FDE UBR on the way, should be here tomorrow or Wednesday but I wont have a chance to put it on and try it out till this weekend.

Is that a custom modded KAC forward grip? I love the circumference of the KAC (girl hands), but have been using the TD stubby for a lower-profile around barriers/prone.
Finding that i want less real estate than the stubby (thinking of modding it myself, but it's still too thick imo), but slightly more than the KAC handstop. Still trying to find a happy medium.

Nice looking stick! Tell us about it.

Sure thing!

Basically early this summer when I was spending a lot more time dreaming about shooting, rather than actually shooting, I decided I wanted to build a Mk. 18 Mod. 0 clone. I had fired one while in Iraq in 2006 just before I left the Army and once was enough. I just love the format and how the weapon handles. I had mused about it in another thread...

I just keep coming back to the MK18 MOD 0'ish build when I think SBR.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b200/decodeddiesel/MK18.jpg

To me it is the epitome of a KISS carbine built for a CQB mission. 10.5" or 10.3" chrome lined gov't profile 1/7 barrel, fixed FSB with a fixed rear BUIS, an Aimpoint in a light weight non-QD mount, a Surefire, and a very rugged non-FF rail. This is going to be the template for my next build, about the only things I am going to change from a Mk18 are:

I am probably going to use an M16A1 pistol grip as per the original. It's lightweight, virtually indestructible and cheap. I will use a "gapper" so the gap doesn't tear my finger apart, or I may just use my MIAD with the small insert and trigger guard, though I don't much care for the A2 finger bump.

I will be using an Aimpoint T1 in a Daniel Defense non-QD mount. Why? It's the lightest weight micro red dot that will is IMO durable enough for this type of build. I like the LaRue mount my T1 is in now, but the DD is lighter, and I just don't see a need to QD my RDS. I think the T1 and DD mount is the natural evolution of the M2 in a Wilcox mount. Honestly if I did not already own the T1 I would probably just get the M2/wilcox setup.

I will keep the KAC non-FF rail system, but I'm going to use a RAS with the SAS lower, and not a RIS. The RAS has a much better anti-rotation mechanism and is a more advanced version of the same concept. Also after having one on my issued M4 in the Army I just love this rail for purely emotional reasons. I will keep the KAC VFG as well because it's small, light weight, and works very well with my hand, also the KAC rail panels just plain work and I like them.

For a flashlight as much as I like the Surefire Millennium series (especially with a Malkoff drop-in) it is way too heavy and there are much better choices on the market for this type of build. I will be using either my M600C Scout, or an X300 both have LaRue QD mounts.

The only two things I have not yet decided on are the sling (and sling attachment) and the rear BUIS. The Dieter CQD sling and mounts work well, but I think the Magpul MS2 is the natural evolution of that system and works that much better.

Likewise as much as I love having an A2 style sight tower next to my face (I religiously shoot nose to charging handle) I think the LMT rear BUIS is outdated. The Daniel Defense looks like a winner here, but I may just get an LMT and replace the thumb screw with something lower profile and Loctite it down with medium strength Loctite.

I think Crane was onto something with this setup. I know a lot of people don't care much for a 7" rail and longer rails with flip-up BUIS is the vogue thing right now (as shown by the Mk18 Mod1) but I just like having a fixed FSB on something like this, and honestly with a short barrel I feel I don't need to push my hand out that far to control it. I think if you use the 4 rib KAC panel with the KAC VFG behind it and an ISO style grip you can control a 10.5" very well. Also having a long rail is going to add a lot of weight and reduce the "flick-ability" of the weapon.

ETA: Only have a few hundred rounds through her at this point. I need to run it hard, perhaps in a class, and report back. I can already see a few areas (aside from the optics and flashlight) which may need to be addressed.

Thanks for the comment.

I was quite pleased with the switchblock overall. Unsuppressed mode with just the comp was comparable to the standard gas block. Shooting in OFF mode (single shot) with the supressor on was very smooth. You also get zero gas in your face! With the supressed mode ON I did noticed less gas in the face compared to a rifle without a switchblock. I also did notice less carbon build-up in the chamber area in suppressed mode.

Overall, I'm happy with the Switchblock. :)

Thanks a lot, man! I really appreciate the compliment!

No matter which other guns and carbines I bring to the range, or which ones my friends bring, I always find myself grabbing this one to blast away with when doing some training with friends. This is by far my favorite blaster that I have now or have ever owned! It's just a damn good time to shoot it and it takes quite a bit of punishment for my arms and body to get worn out when I'm training with this SBR.

I see many things in this pic that make me feel all warm and fuzzy... however, I can't help but wonder if its the 20 some odd years of various Martial disciplines (consider myself a
Practitioner, not an "Artist") that move me. You see, it's the Tomahawk that just gives this wore out old body a "stiffy" like no blue pill ever could! :D

Damn Stick, does that lob 105 shells or is it an optical illusion? I'm sure there is all kinds of interesting new kit in the pic that you tend to get your hands on first, but it's lost due to the "look away in the gym class showers" spectacle of the pic! :p

I also have an LMT 10.5" on my FA Colt, but this could also wear a 14.5" Bushy, a 10.5" RR 9mm as well as the current dedicated .22 setup. No need for a FF rail on this heavy bbl .22. May put a FSB side sling unit on or go with a single point rear rec plate and a set of KNS pins. Cheap sights, but, it's a .22. Too many other flattops to dress up.

How do you like your SF suppressor on the SBRs? I should be getting my Form 4 back for my surefire 556K can any day now and I can't wait! I'll be running it on a BCM 11.5" and also a BCM 16" middy.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the kind words. The BCM stuff is realy nice too. I'm sure you'll be very happy with those setups. I like my Surefire can quite a bit. Surefire's claim of the gun being more acurate with the can on is absolutely true! Probably cut my groups down by a third or more with the can on. The fast attach feature on the can is great and it is pretty damn quiet. I'm able to shoot without hearing protection easily. The only thing you hear is the sonic crack downrange and the bolt carrier going back and forth. Pretty cool. The other nice thing about my setups is that even with the Suppressor on, the overall length is slightly shorter than my 16 inch gun. You'll like it!

Very nice! I have been contemplating ditching my 9.5FSP lite rail for a 10" and having the FSB shaved on my 11.5" BCM (standard). When rolling support thumb over the top of the rail, that FSB can get hot. I was thinking of going with DD fixed sights as well. I already run an Aimpoint H1, but have a TD stubby grip, and Surefire G2 in a Vltor mount (BTW, you need to add a light;))

Ya -- my x300 doesn't fit which is one of the reasons I'd like to get a DD front sight. It might give me enough room to mount it at 12 o'clock.

That's an upper I built last year around this time. I used my old Vltor upper, Young NM chrome BCG, my Vltor GB front sight and a 14.5" SS Shilen barrel from Rainier. That's a DD Lite 10.0 and there's a PWS bi lock mount on the end of the shilen.

With my G5 mounted (the actual one steve torture tested) attached I shoot this better than that 16" stealth sitting there.

It's a great upper. I sold it to old pops before I ever shot it. I regret that but oh well!

Sorry- it's a 9.0 on a midlength 14.5".
